One to one Coaching

Clarity. Confidence. Conviction.

Periods of transition now weave throughout our lives. Our area of expertise is in helping you navigate these times of discovery and opportunity.

Whether it's a new job, company, career break, career change or retirement, by taking time to explore your values, interests and goals in a safe space we can help you not only identify and reach your potential, but beyond it.
  • Is it for me?

There are so many decisions in our lives today, and not often the protected time we need to make them.

Coaching would suit those who would like the time and space to explore their values and motivations, consider what they really would like to achieve in their home and professional life. Coaching will provide a sounding board, a mirror on your thoughts, someone to bring a critical and constructive voice to your thought processes. Space to make the decisions that really matter, will enable you to move forward, and tackle your goals with confidence.

    Just some of the issues that coaching can help with are;

    - Coping with change in the workplace.

    - Learning to thrive in a volatile and uncertain environment.

    - Deciding whether to take a on extra responsibilities or roles.

    - Choosing your specialty.

    - Developing a career plan.

    - Considering a career change.

    - Taking time out of practice.

    - Relocating.

    - Managing professional qualifications and exams.

    - Accommodating work, family and other interests and responsibilities within your life.

    - Moving towards retirement.

  • How does it work?

You may be keen to  have your first coaching session as soon as possible. Others may have questions or would like to discuss their situation prior to starting coaching. If so, I'd be very happy to arrage with you a free 20-minute phone call where we can explore whether you're in the right place for coaching at present. It's also the time to check we're a great match from a coaching point of view.

Once you're happy, we can book your first four coaching sessions. I'm very mindful of todays pressures, and that you may not be able to commit to certain dates at the start, but that's okay. I'm sensitive to the need for flexibility, therefore dependant on demand, sessions can be scheduled up to 72 hours prior to the appointment.

During the first coaching session we discuss your situation, motivations, values, goals and dreams. We also take an overview of coaching, what it involves, and what to expect from one another. It's a full session, and for this reason, often lasts longer (up to 120 minutes). The usual coaching sessions will last 90 minutes.

When people arrive at coaching it is often because they have reached a point where they need to make some real changes. To acheive these kind of changes it commonly will take at least four coaching sessions. That's not to say that there is no benefit in a single session, there is. However, it is unlikely to be the long-lasting transformation change you're looking for.  If following this you're eager to continue on your journey, then further sessions can be arranged.

Still not sure? Contact me to arrange a free phone-call. We can discuss your situation and coaching needs. There's no obligation, it's not a hard sell, it's just to establish whether it's the right path for you at this time.

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • How much does it cost?

There is no need for a commitment either before or during the free 20-minute phone-call. You can contact me at your convenience once you've decided whether you're ready for coaching. Often coachees are keen to book-in their first session straight away!

    A Transition Coaching course package includes;

    20-minute consultation phone-call

    1 x 120 minute initial coaching session

    3 x 90 minute coaching sessions

Sessions may be face-to-face, or via Skype dependant on geography, preference and availability.

Develop a mentoring scheme

Support and retain.

My time spent working as a Coaching and Mentoring Fellow within the NHS has given me opportunity to see first-hand the impact it can have. Helping doctors around the region set up their own schemes has been a valuable experience and one I can draw on the support others to do the same. If you're interested in setting up your own scheme please contact me.

  • Is coaching and mentoring important in medicine?

When I talk about the value of coaching and mentoring. One area which is repeatedly highlighted, is it's value at times of transition.

In many professions this might be professional exams, changing roles, taking on greater leadership and managerial tasks, life events that change your work dynamics and many other areas.

These are all areas that are shared within medicine. Let's add in multiple professional exams, the ongoing professional development required, frequent geographical moves, dealing with complaints and the notorious volatile and uncertain environment we work in. Now consider taking on committee roles, constantly developing service provision and considering a portfolio career. How about transitioning to retirement whilst continuing to adapt and develop the things you love about your job.

Where are the areas of transition within a medical career? It might be easier to identify a period where there is stability and consistency. Can you think of one? Nor can I. Let me know if you do!

Is coaching and mentoring important in medicine?

Medicine can feel like you're always pressing forward towards the next shift, next curriculum requirement, next exam, interview, rota change. Coach-mentoring provides the time and space to consider your direction, your motivations, your values, how to balance competing elements of your life and career. It helps doctors explore the nature of their strengths and skills, and how they can use them to increase their motivation and satisfaction in both a demanding career, and their life in general.

At a time of ever-stretched services and rota gaps, coach-mentoring is an investment in the future of the NHS, and an investment in it's greatest asset, it's staff.

  • We're interested in setting up a scheme, what next?

Contact me for a free 30 minute phone call to discuss your needs and available products further.

There are a number of enthusiastic people already working towards embedding a coach-mentoring culture within the NHS. I'm very happy to put you in touch with others for you to network, seek advice and to share both good practice and resources.

If you would like further support, then contact me to discuss how I can help. Whether it's to provide consultancy services, phone support, presentations, workshops or mentor and mentee training.

  • We'd like support in starting a coach-mentoring scheme, can you help?

    Yes, in many ways.

I'm currently in the position to offer the following workshops and presentations.

    • Core team workshop on setting up a mentoring scheme.
    • Presentation to key stakeholders.
    • Full-day coach-mentor training (24 participants maximum).
    • Half-day workshop for mentees.

I look forward to hearing from you!
